KOLKATA/TEHATTA: Bengal CM
Mamata Banerjee on Thursday said that even after Trinamool’s Krishnanagar candidate
Mahua Moitra was suspended from Parliament, she remained firmly in the minds of the people. The CM was speaking at a campaign rally at Nadia’s Tehatta.
“I believe in Mahua Moitra. I believe in my Maa, Mati, Manush... They (
BJP) suspended her from Parliament, but they failed to remove her from the hearts of the people of Krishnanagar.
By accepting her yet again, you (voters) will prove that this is the speciality of Chaitanyadeb’s Krishnanagar,” Banerjee said.
With Moitra at her side, the CM said that the former MP had been a “thorn” at BJP’s side and that’s why she was suspended. “You had elected Mahua Moitra. Did BJP have any right to forcefully suspend her from Parliament? We can also suspend all the MLAs that you (BJP) have. Is this how you are flexing your power? Winning a Parliament election does not mean you can flex muscles. You can secure a majority but can you suspend 147 MPs from Parliament on a single day,” asked Banerjee.
Without naming PM Narendra Modi, the CM said: “There would be people coming on Friday to spread lies in Mahua’s area.” The PM is likely to hold three rallies — one of them in Krishnanagar — on Friday. “She dares to speak the truth on their face, she does not get frightened, she fights like a true baagher baccha. She spoke about Adanis and this angered them. She may have friends outside the country. If we try to dig out the friends that the Delhi netas have, they will be left nowhere. Kencho khunrte shaap berobe (a Bengali proverb which means bigger exposes would be made digging in search of small facts),” said Banerjee.
Banerjee went on to say that BJP had been spreading lies for the last 10 years about Matuas getting citizenship through CAA and said it was a ployto take away existing citizenship rights and deport people to concentration camps.
She also said the UCC would prevent different communities, tribes and sects from practising their own customs and rituals.
